Trips: See pink Dalmatian pelicans in Kerkini National Park

Kerkini is a large man-made lake in Northern Greece and birdwatcher's heaven. It is one of the best places in Europe to see about 300 rare and protected bird species that live and breed here.

The most dramatic resident is the pink Dalmatian pelican. We cannot get enough of these amazing creatures. Check out @giorzacharogiannis Instagram for some awesome photos.

Kerkini is located 100 km from Thessaloniki and 40 km from Serres. It will take you a little under 3 hours to drive from Vourvourou, but it's worth it.

There are quite a few small hotels in the area. We will let you know, which one we liked the best!
